PS2 Price Drop
May 14, 2003

Sony once again surprised everyone by being the first of cut the price of their Playstation 2 console.  Unfortunately, the price cut is not a
permitt one.  In an effort to clear inventory, Sony will be lowering the price of the PS2 to $179 in the United States. This is to make way for a new version of the PS2 that will be released next month.  This new version will include an adapter to allow for online game play in addition to the ability to play home-made DVDs.  The new PS2 will cost $199 when it's released.

Most retailers and gamers had been expecting a price cut but did not expect Sony to throw the first punch once again.  Last year's E3 saw Sony
cut the price of their PS2 from $299 to $199 force a price drop by Microsoft and Nintendo.

The $179 price cut for the current PS2 should be in effect at most stores as of today.
