Sammy has
announced an official date (Q1 2003) and name for their latest
fighter, Guilty Gear X2 (we originally had it as XX).
They've also sent us 11 new screenshots of the game in action,
and we just had to pass them along to you. Looking
good...

----------
With the
unfortunate demise of SNK, Capcom is left solely keeping the
2D fighting genre alive. Or are they? While Sammy has yet to
reach the same level of success with their fighting franchise
that Capcom has, their games have always been strong
contenders to the throne. The up-and-coming Guilty Gear
franchise has always experienced critical, if not always
commercial, success for its groundbreaking graphics and tight
fighting mechanics. Guilty Gear XX, the sequel to last
year’s Guilty Gear X, could very well do for Sammy
what Dead or Alive 2 did for Tecmo. That is to make the
gaming world sit up and take notice of a franchise that has
what it takes to go toe-to-toe with the big boys.

Guilty
Gear XX
will utilize the same innovative fighting system that the
previous title did, which encouraged frantic offensive attacks
over defensive "turtle" playing with its
"Tension Gauge", as well as some new additions to
the fighting system, like a new combo-breaking and attack
canceling system. The game will also use the same
high-resolution character models and environments that made Guilty
Gear X so gorgeous. All-in-all Guilty Gear XX is
thus far shaping up to be quite a title, and could very well
trounce the aged Marvel vs. Capcom 2 in terms of
commercial success after they are both released for the PS2.
