God bless Working Designs.

I can remember seeing the first screenshots and information on Arc the Lad way back in and old issue of Game Players, and both my best friend and I instantly added it to our most wanted lists despite never being a fan of the strategy/RPG sub-genre. Back then we weren't connected to the Internet, so I didn't learn that it would never make it over here until long after Arc the Lad II had already come out in Japan. Obviously I was miffed, and cursed Sony for their 2D-hating ways. I quickly forgot about the series in lieu of other big RPGs, until on January 26, 2000 Working Designs announced Arc the Lad Collection for a November 2000 release. Several excruciating delays followed, but FINALLY the series I fawned over as a teenager has reached my grubby little paws. The wait was definitely worth it.

Since there's a chance that you might be able to pick up each Arc the Lad separately through the magic of eBay one day (they don't need each other to work properly, although you lose the save conversions), I'll provide a separate overall score for each game in the series and then an overall score for the entire collection.

Arc the Lad I-->
